Biography

Grant J. Sheehan is Principal of Sheehan's Consulting, a firm specializing in association management, credit union consulting, executive development, entrepreneurial leadership  and strategic planning as well as construction management and disaster recovery. 

After military service in the United States Coast Guard  he was employed with Sears Roebuck of Chicago where he attended their management school. He returned to Miami to become a Firefighter with the City of Miami. After his retirement from the fire department he became CEO of Miami Firefighters Federal Credit Union. 

As a firefighter he attended Miami Dade College and received his state certification as Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), State Certified Municipal Fire Inspector and completed business and administration courses.  

As a Firefighter, he was assigned by the City of Miami  Fire Chief and City Manager to several positions outside of the fire department such as Public Works Clerk of the Works (fire fire garage and credit union construction), City wide Public Works Project Manager, Hurricane Andrew Recovery Team (HART) and retired as Capital Improvements Program Administrator (CIP Administrator), Department of Budget and Finance.  

While serving on the Hurricane Recovery Team he attended the Federal Emergency Management Institute (FEMA) located at the National Fire Academy and received  certifications in, Disaster Preparedness, Natural Hazards Mitigation & Recovery, Integrated Hurricane Emergency Management and Disaster Response and Recovery.  

Grant served as Chairman of the board of Miami Firefighters Federal Credit Union for 12 years before becoming the CEO, from October 1998 till February 2009. The firefighter’s credit union has assets of $76 million, 6,000 members, 21 employees, and 2 branches. 

He graduated from the Florida Credit Union League Management School located at Florida State University as class President and the designation of Certified Credit Union Executive. He has been recognized by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and has received the Edward A. Filene Award and Friedrich W. Raiffeisen Award for his extraordinary dedication and effort in continuing education in the Volunteer Education Program (VAP) and furthering to better serve credit union members.

As a credit union executive, Grant has been a member of the Credit Union Executives Society (CUES) since 1998. He served as Chairman of the Coral Keys Chapter of credit unions as well as sitting on the Dues and Structure Committee for the Florida Credit Union League. 

Grant founded the Firefighters Credit Union Conference, in 2001. He also founded and presently serves as their Executive Director, the Firefighters Coalition of Credit Unions, Inc.  (a not for profit) to represent over 100 credit unions nationwide. As Executive Director he manages their day to day operations as well as their annual convention and meeting. 

As a speaker he has spoken on Board Management Relationships, Board Governance, Board Duties and Responsibilities and Peer 2 Peer relationships. As an educator he has spoken to numerous groups about credit unions and their rich traditions.

He is Vice President of SDR Properties of Dade County Inc. a real estate company founded by his Wife owner and broker, Denise Ringpfeil Sheehan.

Grant also offers his services as an eMentor through a volunteer advisory group called,  CU Times TRAILBLAZERS  eMentors are retired credit union executives who volunteer their time to help todays credit unions succeed.  

He is happily married to Denise Ringpfeil Sheehan and the father of Michael Sheehan.
